Training and Education

Training solutions are an integral part of the success of any enterprise application deployment.  The use of sophisticated tools is essential in educating the staff for the go live as well as prepare for new hires after the deployment is finished and transitioned to production.

Four educational materials sets are needed;

  1. Super user application use materials – instruction guides that include all features and functions
  2. Quick reference cards – to be posted near the users monitor to refresh their memory on basic functionality
  3. User application operations materials – specific application instructions based on roles;
    • Doctor
    • Nurse
    • Admissions
    • Billing
    • Emergency Department
    • and others
  4. Learning Management System (LMS) – an ongoing training refresher course with certification capabilities.

The use of computer based training works in conjunction with traditional classroom instruction.

The development of the core curriculum should begin when the design specifications have been finalized.  Collaborating with the training and education departments as well as the nursing and physician communities will ensure that the materials address all of the workflow requirements of the application.

The Training and Education (T&E) department must become familiar with core computerized utilities such as Abode’s Captivate, PDF authoring, and Microsoft Word office automation applications.  A well architected and organized library of raw materials will provide for quick edits and publication of materials should the application undergo modifications.

  • Screen Shots from the application
  • Mouse movement and keyboard tabbing capture to illustrate actual use of the application
  • A scripted narrative with voice over additions – computerized text reading will reduce future editing costs
  • Imbedded lessons learned quizzing will assist the user in retesting efforts
  • Integration with the enterprises Learning Management Systems is required
  • Publication of the training materials into the project portal (SharePoint) will keep the users up to date even as the applications changes during deployment
  • Special materials for super users and application champions provide a deeper application adoption framework
